NEW SCHOOL FOR YORK REGION
Provincial Government Helping Local Catholic Students Succeed
Catholic students in York Region will benefit from new capital funding under the Growth Schools Program to construct a new school to accommodate their growing numbers.
The government is investing $2.2 million to help the York Catholic District School Board build new school spaces for students in King City under the Growth Schools program. The Growth Schools program supports building new schools in areas of local population growth.
This funding is in addition to $4.3 million announced last August to rebuild the prohibitive-to-repair school, Holy Name Catholic Elementary School. The Prohibitive-to-Repair funding will help boards build new schools or expand existing schools to replace facilities where renewal needs are almost as much as the cost of replacing the school.
These programs are part of the government’s $4.8 billion Good Places to Learn initiative to renew and rebuild schools across Ontario.
“While enrolment is declining overall across Ontario, some school boards are experiencing pockets of growth as families move into new subdivisions or neighbourhoods. We’re helping these students and their families in King City by providing new school spaces,” said Oak Ridges-Markham MPP Helena Jaczek.
“Growing communities across Ontario will benefit from new school facilities just like these in York Region. By investing in better schools for our students, we’re helping them to succeed and reach their full potential,” said Education Minister Kathleen Wynne.
